POMPANO BEACH — A 17-year-old girl died Wednesday after someone shot into the window of the motel where she was inside with family members, police said.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Broward Sheriff’s deputies were called to room 123 at the Travelodge Hotel on Northwest 31st Avenue in Pompano Beach.
Inside, they found the girl who had been shot and was unresponsive, police said. WPLG-Ch. 10 reported the girl’s name as Alisa Espaillat, a twin and a student at Coconut Creek High School.
Espaillat went to Broward Health North, where she died from her gunshot wounds, police said.
Investigators identified two people who fled after the shooting as suspects, 23-year-old Jayla Leondrea Patton and 19-year-old D’Angelo Cincord.
Detectives said the shooting stemmed from an argument between Patton and Espaillat’s relative. Investigators determined that Patton went to the Travelodge to speak with someone she thought was in the hotel room, but Espaillat’s relative told Patton that person was not there.
The family member was able to push Patton out of the way to close the door, but that’s when someone fired a gun into the hotel room window and Espaillat was shot.

Detectives arrested Patton and Cincord on Wednesday. Both are facing murder charges, authorities said.
